We're building our dream cottage this year. We have a lovely waterfront lot on a point of land on a small lake in Southern Ontario.

A Cavalier on a 4 wheel drive road in winter

We knew we were taking chances driving into the road with our little 4 cylinder car.

The road to the cottage area is typical country farm type road, hilly and curvey. As the crow flies its probably less than 1 kilomettre, taking the road it's probably 5. But among protected by the trees, the snow on the road had not melted much. It was still thick and relatively solid.

It didn't look too bad from the main road, the snow was quite well packed down from the 4 wheel drive trucks that have been down there, so we ventured in. Carefully at first, then since we were doing pretty well, we went a bit faster thinking we'd have to have some speed to get up those hills. Please don't let us meet another vehicle.

Scraped bottom a few times, but for the most part did pretty good. It was a good day, the cottage looked perfect nestled among the snow and trees.

The lake was still frozen solid, the odd fishing hut still standing waiting for its owner to try his luck. But other than one lone fisherman hovering over his ice hole with his trusty horse (ATV) standing nearby all was quiet.

And other than a bit of pushing that Bill had to do to get us going back out, that ole Cavalier handled that snowy road pretty well.

Yeah, we took a chance, but we did okay. Maybe we shoulda bought a lottery ticket today.
